In the last year Portugal was ranked 5th among European Union countries and 18th in the world (among 198 countries) for technology utilisation to improve Electronic Government.

According to the report* published on 19 August by the Brookings Governance Studies, Portugal has maintained its excellent performance in the improvements introduced in Electronic Government in the last year. It stands in 18th place in the world and 5th in the European Union.

Broadband Efficiency Index 2007: Portugal is ranked as the 3rd most efficient country in the OECD for the promotion of broadband

According to the Broadband Efficiency Index, included in the study entitled “What Really Drives Broadband Adoption across the OECD?” produced and published by the Phoenix Center, Portugal had the 3rd best performance of the 30 OECD countries for its level of efficiency in adopting broadband. Only Iceland and Belgium were classified ahead of Portugal.

According to the OECD Broadband study published today, the fixed broadband penetration rate in Portugal stood at 14.4% in December 2007 following technical corrections introduced by the operators. It is recalled that the figure for the same period for 2005 was 11.5% which means that there was a 25% growth in two years.
